Finding a Route Through Uninhabitable Land

Leporello/ Artist Publication, 2018

Finding a Route Through Uninhabitable Land is a publication inspired by hand-drawn maps depicting isolated places like the Amazon and the Himalayas. The work interacts with the travel books written by Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) in which he describes the difficulties of finding a route through the overgrown and dangerous rainforest in South America.

By copying the maps over and over again only the most dominant lines on the paper remain and thus form afictional route through these remote places. In collaboration with graphic designer Lyanne Polderman, a publication was realized. This Leporello was printed in a limited edition of 16 and has been on view for the first time during Museumnacht 2018, in the Natural History Museum of Maastricht (NL).
